In 1980s, after being trained in TVB Stars Camp, Stephen debuted as a TV drama actor in TVB, and sometime he also host sorts of children programs there. His classmates in that camp included Tony Leung and Andy Lau, who always “PK” for the honor of “Best Actor” in Hong Kong Film Awards. The latter two guys are well-known as dramatic actors, while Stephen demonstrated a different path by specializing in comedies, and was finally acknowledged as the “King of Comedy” widely.
In 1990s, Stephen has given 42 film works, most of which are comedies. 42 works for 10 years means more than 4 films per year. It’s easy to find that he is a high-producing actor, which is identical with the characteristics of HK film industry. The period of 1992 to 1994 is Stephen’s “Outbreak Period”: only in 1992, 7 of his films, in 6 of which he played as the hero, had been publicly shown.
